The Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round is a nostalgic treasure that continues to delight visitors of all ages, much like Disneyland itself. Nestled in a peaceful corner of the park, this modest carousel played a pivotal role in inspiring one of the world’s most famous theme parks.
Walt Disney, who lived in nearby Los Feliz, regularly brought his young children to ride the merry-go-round on weekends. During one of these visits, as he sat on a bench watching his kids circle around again and again, inspiration struck. He envisioned creating a large-scale entertainment destination where entire families could enjoy attractions together. That dream became reality on July 17, 1955, when Disneyland opened its gates to the public for the first time.
