As the son of one of America’s best known automotive journalists, Brock took a different path for many years working in the food and beverage industry for 20 years after leaving Hobart College. But growing up surrounded by cars and racing was too hard to escape as the love of the automobile and driving was ingrained from the beginning. From the early years playing at Watkins Glen while his father raced to apprenticing with racecar builder Ron Nash and being a veteran of the first Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash as a 14 year-old in 1971, his destiny was cast.
In 1984, he entered the first One Lap of America in a Saab 900. After that it was a couple of ill-advised attempts in the La Carrera Classico, a short recreation of the Mexican Road Race of the 50’s in a period 1954 Lincoln Capri, a couple of stints at delivering press cars around the country and a continuing participation in One Lap. After building a class-winning car in 1995 he became involved in the administration of the event.
In 2009, he took over the Tire Rack One Lap of America from his father and is currently restoring the event to its rightful place as a serious motorsports event. During the rest of the year, he teaches proper driving techniques at Driving Dynamics.
Besides One Lap, Brock spends his free time with his daughter maintaining and upgrading the family’s 200 year-old Pennsylvania tavern and farm with a few horses, chickens and random pets.
